Linux, the other operating system, was developed under the GNU General Public License with the assistance of developers from around the world. So, unlike Microsoft’s Windows, the source code is free. In 1991 small groups of programming wizards found a hero in Linus Torvalds, who began to tailor distribution of the program to various uses and needs. That’s when filmmaker JTS Moore decided to document the commercial success of Linux.

His film, Revolution OS, has recently been released on DVD, complete with a director’s commentary and tons of DVD-ROM features. JTS spoke with GPF’s Jeremy Smith about his production company, Wonderview Productions, and how growing up in the Appalachian area prepared him for filming his documentary.
